ONLINE INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT

Mid-Century Living/Dining Room with Japandi Influence

The Starting Point

We set out to create a functional dining room with personality, designed for both everyday use and entertaining guests. While making the most of the available space without feeling overcrowded, the challenge was to find the right balance between the serenity of Japandi style and the character of Mid-Century Modern, combining wood, green tones and warm accents.

We started with an unfurnished room, which gave us the freedom to define both the layout and aesthetic from scratch. The homeowners were looking for a warm and welcoming interior feturing plenty of wood and colour that would showcase their personality. The project was also working to a tighter budget and so our solution was to create a design with a selection of pieces that could be introduced gradually over time.

THE KEY CHOICES

Why choose a round dining table?
A round table makes better use of the available space, improve circulation around the table and avoid sharp corners in a passage area.
Why avoid overly light woods?
Light woods prevent the interior from feeling too flat, while also creating a more sophisticated and inviting atmosphere.
Why introduce a feature colour?
A single bold colour adds personality and breaks up the neutral base. Choosing a soft green maintains the calm atmosphere that we want to achieve.
Why place an armchair by the window?
Comfortable and relaxing corners are perfect for positioning by natural light sources, to create spaces for cosy activities such as reading.
Why introduce plants in selected areas?
Plants are an easy way to add life and colour to the space, while also reinforcing the natural character of the chosen palette without overwhelming the space.
We wanted to avoid
  • The living and dining areas feeling disconnected or lacking a cohesive layout.
  • Uncomfortable flow around the dining table and seating area.
  • The living room feeling too neutral or lacking personality.
  • Leaving areas underused, such as  by the window.
Our solution
  • Mid-tone woods, green and warm accents that add depth and personality while maintaining a calm atmosphere.
  • A balanced Japandi base style with Mid-Century-inspired pieces to create a warm, functional interior with character.
  • A clear layout connecting the living and dining areas while maintaining comfortable flow.
